Podcasts That Punch Up!
Curated by...
Kristen Meinzer (she/her), co-host of Daily Fail
Why did you choose this theme?
The best humor punches up, not down, and so do the best podcasts. All the shows on my list acknowledge who wields the power, how that power is sometimes abused, and when we're maybe expecting way too much of those at the top. Plus, they all make me laugh out loud.

What A Creep
Moms for Liberty: Creepy Political Book Banning Mob
What A Creep is hosted by Sonia Mansfield and Margo Donahue. In each episode they look at one of the world's biggest creeps, jerks, assholes, or losers, and they wrap up each episode on a warm note, highlighting a non-creep. EarBuds curator Kristen loved their recent episode about book bans and Moms for Liberty, a right-wing group of parents who are against school curriculums that mention LGBT rights, race and ethnicity, critical race theory, and discrimination.
Fad Camp
The Wedding Diet
In Fad Camp, hosts Conor Dowling and Grace Mulvey examine and eviscerate the fad diet industry. What makes this show especially delightful is the fact that along with all the laughter, there's also vulnerability. This episode focuses on the extremes some brides go through before their wedding day.
Daily Fail
BREAKING: Men Are the Real Victims of Slut Shaming, Actually
Daily Fail is hosted by EarBuds curator Kristen Meinzer and Maura Curie and each episode dissects and laughs at three of the most outlandish stories published in the past week. This episode looks at a study that argues men are punished more for their sex lives than women.
Cancelled
Rupert "Succession is Absolutely Not Based On Me" Murdoch
Cancelled is a hilarious look at celebrities who've faced scrutiny in the court of public opinion, and whether or not that scrutiny is actually warranted. As someone who looks closely at the media and uses it, EarBuds curator Kristen especially enjoyed their recent episode. It dives into Rupert Murdoch's marriages, poor social media use, and all the ways he is just like Logan Roy from Succession.
Fixing Famous People
George Santos with Brian Moylan
In Fixing Famous People, television producers Chris DeRosa and Dominick Pupa decide which of their imaginary celebrity clients need the most help, and hold nothing back as they take turns pitching ideas of how to best fix the famous person’s crumbling public image. They had some great ideas in "George Santos with Brian Moylan."

COMMUNITY:
🎤This week in Podcast The Newsletter: The Redemption of Jar Jar Binks is about the Star Wars character Jar Jar Binks, who was named "the most annoying movie character of all time" by Complex. But he was a real person, too, named Ahmed Best. Or at least the actor who played him was. The hate Ahmed received for his role in Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace in 1999 pulled him into one of the first-ever online hate campaigns. Host Dylan Marron goes back to reckon with the online hatred Jar Jar inspired, and what we can learn from it today.
🏕️True crime meets summer camp! Based on a true story, Summer Camp: The Case of the Phantom Pooper follows camp director Mookie as he struggles to solve a string of seriously smelly pranks at a Canadian summer camp. His attempts to trace a prolific prankster uncover more mischief than he bargained for.

Seeking Season 2: Live Forever
Season 2 of Seeking focuses on people interrogating whether being human means we must die or if living forever is possible. These people are all members of a wide and growing movement, life extension and transhumanist pioneers who believe they can use science and technology to overcome mortality.
While some of these ideas seem pretty out there (e.g., compiling your consciousness on a chip and beaming it to the cosmos), it taps into a near-universal feeling: a fear of the end. It makes you wonder, is it really so fringe after all?
