Curator

Matt Linder, hip-hop scholar and co-host of Flickers

Why did you choose this theme?

I’m a hip-hop scholar who has published and presented work on Kendrick Lamar, Lauryn Hill, and Kanye West. So I’m very interested in the history of hip-hop and the impacts of hip-hop culture. This list has important untold hip-hop histories and explores the hustle ethic of hip-hop.

Authentic: The Story Of Tablo
Hell Korea

As the Korean hip-hop group Epik High was gaining popularity, a conspiracy theory started in an online forum that claimed one of their members, Tablo, was lying about graduating from Stanford. This episode explores how this conspiracy theory became a national obsession and ties its roots to the frustrations of Koreans about societal injustice in their country.

Hip-Hop Can Save America
Hip-Hop Meets the Orchestra with Thee Phantom

Hip-hop is more than two turntables and a microphone. Through interviews with activists, academics, therapists, educators, entrepreneurs, and more, host Manny Faces shows how hip-hop can positively impact individuals and communities. This episode is with Thee Phantom, an artist who combines hip-hop with live orchestration. This music is then performed in classical music halls, showing that those spaces are as much for hip-hop lovers as they are for classical music lovers.

Women in Hip Hop Podcast
