Radiolab
The Trust Engineers

Radiolab is one of the most beloved podcasts and public radio shows in the world. The show is known for its deep-dive journalism and innovative sound design. In this episode, we learn that there’s a team at Facebook whose whole job it is to make you comfortable enough to stay on Facebook so they can experiment on you. Yeah.

Every Day Is A Food Day
Peanut Butter: Spread it on Thic‪c‬

Every food you love has a story. Each episode, hosts Anna Van Valin (s/o to our curator!) and Lia Ballentine pick a favorite food or drink and nerd-out on its holidays, histories, and scandals. In this episode, we get into fresh, roasted peanut butter.

1619 Project
The Economy That Slavery Built

In August of 1619, a ship carrying more than 20 enslaved Africans arrived in the English colony of Virginia. America was not yet America, but this was the moment it began. No aspect of the country that would be formed here has been untouched by the 250 years of slavery that followed — this podcast tells that story. In this episode, we explore: how did American “work” become so brutal, thankless, and winner-takes-all? It’s always been that way. With its reliance on precarious loans and enslaved labor, the cruel ambitions of the early cotton industry still haunt us.

Hidden Brain
The Lonely American Man

Boys get the message at a young age: don't show your feelings. Don't rely on anyone. In this episode, we take a close look at misguided notions of masculinity in the United States. We explore how those notions create stressed-out romantic relationships, physical health problems, and a growing epidemic of loneliness. Plus, we consider how we might begin to tell a different story about what it means to be a man.

Encyclopedia Womannica
Beautiful Minds: Anna Freud

In just five minutes a day, learn about incredible women from throughout history. This podcast tells the stories of women you may or may not know — but definitely should. In this episode, we affirm that hidden forces in our psychology are powerful. Psychologist Anna Freud (NOT her dad, Sigmund) developed some of the most widely known psychological concepts, like repression, projection, defense mechanisms and trauma. Bet ya didn't know that.

Our Podcast 🎤

This week, we speak with Shreya Sharma. Shreya writes for Inside Podcasting, a thrice weekly newsletter from Inside.com. Shreya lives in Vancouver and is working on creating some noise for women in podcasting and creating a space for indie podcasters through her newsletter. She’s a podcast geek who proclaims “ooh there’s a podcast for that,” at least five times a day. Someday, she hopes to create a classic rock podcast of her own. When she’s not obsessing over podcasts, she’s also the Marketing Director at Elevate Ultimate.
