Podcasts Out of This World 🚀

Heads up! Next week, we'll have a new website. It's a much-needed upgrade and we're pumped to reveal it. We're utilizing a bunch of no-code tools to create it and Micah Johnson is the designer. If you need a no-coder, he's your guy!

Curator:

Joel McKinnon

Why did you choose this theme?

I love space science, space exploration, science fiction, and I’m drawn to the deep mysteries of the cosmos. I'm a member of the Mars Society, which advocates human exploration of the red planet, and you will find a few references to that world in my list. I also love science fiction and drama, especially when it involves the dark and mysterious, which will also be well-represented.

Girl In Space
Episode 101: Cheese is Delicious Science

This podcast is a wonderfully externalized internal monologue. It’s a girl in space describing what is happening in her spacecraft, and also coming up with a lot of pretty amazing little philosophical observations along the way. There’s also a lot of wry and enigmatic humor as well – and the episode ends with a cliffhanger.

WeMartians Podcast
Episode 94, Guiding Perseverance to the Ground (feat. Swati Mohan)

If you watched the gripping descent of NASA’s Perseverance Rover to the ground in the infamous “7 minutes of terror,” you should be familiar with Swati Mohan, the voice of the Entry, Descent, and Landing team at JPL who announced the key moments on live NASA TV, including the exhilarating picture-perfect touchdown in Jezero Crater. Besides being a brilliant engineer, she’s great at explaining what made this landing so important and why it was a huge step forward for future missions.

Eye on SciFi
Episode 134: Mars Space Drama Short 501 DAYS

Host Rod T. Faulkner describes a unique short film called 501 DAYS about a married couple on a mission to Mars, where they are to make ten orbits and then return to Earth.

Astronomy Cast
Episode 599: Zodiacal Light

This serious science podcast revolves around a mistake Dr. Pamela Gay made in describing the source of the phenomenon of zodiacal light – a pretty big blunder actually – but also a core part of what makes science…science.

Seldon Crisis
The Psychohistorians

This is our curator, Joel’s, own adaptation of Isaac Asimov’s epic series, considered to be one of the best science fiction stories of all time. In this opening episode, mathematical genius Hari Seldon, inventor of the science of psychohistory and prophet of doom for the Galactic Empire, stands trial with his young protege Gaal Dornick.
